Unrestrained child dies in crash

The State Patrol says a baby killed in a crash early today near Yelm was not buckled into a Child Safety Seat.

The 14-month-old girl, was reportedly sitting on her mother's lap. She was fatally injured when the car driven by her father left Rainier Road, struck a tree and went down an embankment. The baby died at Saint Peter Hospital in Olympia.

The family had been at the hospital last night to treat the baby for a fall. They were on the way home when the car ran off the wet roadway. Parents were wearing seatbelts and survived.

The father was treated at Saint Peter hospital in Olympia. The mother was flown to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle in serious condition with internal injuries.
