Better Safe Than Sorry Reporting Line
- The telephone number to call is at 1-800-282-5587. You may call 24 hours a day to leave a message.
- This program works only from within Washington State (you cannot reach the toll-free number outside the state of Washington.)
- When you hear the message saying you have reached 1-800 BUCK-L-UP and the Safety Restraint Coalition, press the number 2 on your telephone's touchtone keypad followed by the "#" sign. You will be able to hear how to a make a report.
- If you do not wish to hear the sample information on how to report an unbuckled child, press the "#" key on your telephone and begin speaking after the beep.
- You may hang up when you are finished speaking without pressing any additional keys.
- Please give us as much information as you can:
- Vehicle License number and State. Please make up a word for each of the letters in the license plate number. "D's", "P's", T's", etc. are hard to distinguish and no one wants to make a mistake. For example, if you were reporting the license number 600DVD you might say something like "600 David, Victor, David" or "600 Dog, Viceroy, Dog".
- Color of vehicle (red, white, gray)
- Type of vehicle (car, truck, van) and make and model if possible. For example, Toyota Corolla station wagon.
- Time of day
- When and where in the state of Washington you saw the vehicle. For example: corner of 156th and Main in downtown Bellevue
- What you saw that made you believe the child was not buckled up.
